Hieroglyphs - the Movie

POM BOOK WEEK

It's NEW BOOK WEEK at Pomegranate and each day of this week we are going to introduce to a different new title and what a debut we have, with Pomegranate's first ever children's book!

HIEROGLYPHS

Hieroglyphs from A to Z is the first book published by PomegranateKids™, an imprint of Pomegranate Communications, in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. With bold graphics, charming, rhyming text, and solid educational content, it explains the hieroglyphic code while imparting important facts about ancient Egypt. As an added bonus, a separate sheet of stencils is provided, slipped inside the back cover, so that kids can easily draw their own hieroglyphs. All told, this is the perfect book for any small visitor to a museum with Egyptian artifacts, or for any child who simply loves words and pictures.

Here's a glimpse inside:

Two Very Cool Things About This Book:

1. The author, Peter Der Manuelian, is interested in using the tools of the future to study the past, and combined his hand-drawn hieroglyphic artwork with a computer to produce this book.

2.  The book includes a sheet of punch-out stencils of hieroglyphs so that children can learn to spell their own name in Hieroglyphics.

 Size: 8½ x 10¼ x 3/8 inches. Smyth-sewn casebound book. ISBN 978-0

Available from sales@pomeurope.co.uk

£10.99/13.50 Euro

Happy Birthday Winslow Homer!

Winslow Homer (February 24, 1836 – September 29, 1910) was an American landscape painter and printmaker, best known for his marine subjects. He is considered one of the foremost painters in 19th century America and a preeminent figure in American art.

Largely self-taught, Homer began his career working as a commercial illustrator. He subsequently took up oil painting and produced major studio works characterized by the weight and density he exploited from the medium.

Pomegranate publishes a lovely range of Winslow Homer products which can be seen here.

Happy Birthday Louis Comfort Tiffany

Louis Comfort Tiffany (American) transformed an ignored medieval medium into the epitome of Art Nouveau. During the last quarter of the nineteenth century, decorative stained-glass windows appeared in churches, civic buildings, steamships, shops, and homes, thanks largely to Tiffany. Pomegranate publishes a variety of his works from the Morse Museum, home to one of the world’s most comprehensive Tiffany collections.

Colouring? and Calendars? Never!

Stop the presses! They come together beautifully!

After seeing great success in the recently launched colouring books, Pomegranate has decided that 2011 should have a more "colourful" Calendar range than previous years. With that, we are proud and excited to introduce our Colouring Calendars for 2011, allowing budding young artists and creative grown up's alike to colour their very own year.

Featuring the same crayon, pencil, felt tip and paint friendly paper as our Colouring books. Each month shows a beautiful image from your artist of choice, stripped down to the simple yet detailed line drawings. These fun filled alternative calendars are ready for you to replicate or even create your own interpretation of the original, the whole Calendar is colour-able even the day numbers!

Keep your eyes peeled for the 2011 Colouring Calendars as they will be in the shops later this year, although with them being so bright and colourful, you're hardly going to miss them!

For 2010 it's all about CATTITUDE

With the first week back clearing the decks [or is it litter trays?] Pomegranate launches it's New Product with Cattitude by introducing you to the marvelous and spectacular Charley Harper.

Charley Harper (August 4, 1922 - June 10, 2007) was a Cincinnati-based American Modernist artist. He was best known for his highly stylized wildlife prints, posters and book illustrations. In a style he called "minimal realism", Charley Harper captured the essence of his subjects with the fewest possible visual elements.

"When I look at a wildlife or nature subject, I don’t see the feathers in the wings, I just count the wings. I see exciting shapes, color combinations, patterns, textures, fascinating behavior and endless possibilities for making interesting pictures. I regard the picture as an ecosystem in which all the elements are interrelated, interdependent, perfectly balanced, without trimming or unutilized parts; and herein lies the lure of painting; in a world of chaos, the picture is one small rectangle in which the artist can create an ordered universe. "
